
Noah Thorsen signed his Letter of Intent to play baseball for Southwest Minnesota State University on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Noah is a two-time All Conference and All Section player. He is in the top five in school history in season and career doubles, triples, and runs scored, and had an ERA of 1.94 in 2022. He is also 7th in school history in strikeouts. Said coach Matt Solberg, “As the kids say big time players make big time plays, Noah has been a performer in big spots from his very first game.”


Peyton Verdon signed her Letter of Intent to play softball for Southwest Minnesota State University on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Peyton is two-time All Conference, one-time All Section, six-time varsity letter, and two-year varsity captain for soccer. She is also a four-time varsity letter in soccer, two-year soccer captain, and two-year NBAMS Mentor. Said coach Kathy Crudo, “Peyton will be missed not only for her compact stature in the box and behind the plate, her ability to change the outcome of the game with one swing, her heads up reactiveness on defense, but also her coachability and willingness to do whatever is asked and demanded of her.”


Andrew Orf signed his Letter of Intent to play baseball for Southwest Minnesota State University on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Andrew is a three-time All Conference/Section/Section Tournament Team, and was the Mississippi 8 Player of the Year as a sophomore. He is first in school history in career hits, doubles, triples, runs, RBIs, and average. Said coach Matt Solberg, “More impressive than these accolades is watching the effort and love Andrew has for the game of baseball. Even down to minor details of bunting and baserunning, Andrew works to perfect his craft in any way possible.”

NBAHS Vikings football is headed to U.S. Bank Stadium for the first time in school history after beating Benilde-St. Margaret in an action-packed 38-27 victory on November 9!
The Vikings play Hutchinson on Friday, Nov. 17 at 4:30 p.m. at U.S. Bank Stadium. Tickets can be purchased from the Minnesota State High School League through Ticketmaster here: https://www.ticketmaster.com/event/06005F4D1AB69E2B
Tickets can also be purchased onsite. The MSHSL does not offer cash sales. Prices are $10/students and $16/adults.
If you are unable to attend but would like to see the game, the MSHSL works through NSPN (http://nspn.tv/MSHSL) and offers all games via livestream for a fee. It is $10/month or $30/year for a subscription.
Staff are working on the logistics of possibly providing fan buses and there will be more information to come early next week.

Hannah Bernier signed her Letter of Intent to play softball for Southwest Minnesota State University on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Hannah is an ExCel Award Winner, two-year National Honor Society Member, Academic All State for Tennis, five-time Academic All Conference (tennis and Softball), two-year varsity letter winner for tennis, four-year varsity letter winner for softball, All Conference Honorable Mention for softball, two-time All Section Softball, a state participant, defensive MVP, two-time All Conference, and All State Honorable Mention. Said coach Kathy Crudo, “Hannah is never satisfied with just doing the minimum or what everyone else is doing. She works herself to the max to create a new max and isn’t afraid to ever be in game winning or losing situations due to her preparation. Hannah is the kid that wants the ball in her hands no matter what.”

NBAHS Air Force JROTC hosted its second annual Viking Challenge Drill Competition last week, including five other JROTC programs in the state. Teams compete against each other in a variety of skills, including inspection, color guard, drone flying, and more. First place overall went to Harding High School and second place overall went to Como Park High School. Results for NBAHS are as follows:

The game, against the Hermantown Hawks, is this Friday, 7 p.m. at Duluth Denfeld.

PUBLIC IS WELCOME: The Viking Challenge drill competition, hosted by the North Branch Area High School Air Force Junior ROTC program, will be held at NBAHS this Friday, Nov. 3, from 10 AM until approximately 3 PM.
Cadet leaders have organized the competition and will be taking the lead role in running the event. The competition will be an opportunity for the cadets to showcase their skills in military drill as well as their academic knowledge and physical fitness. In addition, this year a drone race competition has been added to the event.
Trophies and medals will be awarded to superior performing teams and individuals. Other participating schools include Como Park H.S.,Johnson H.S., Harding H.S., St. Thomas Academy and Cretin-Derham Hall. This event is open to the public. Please enter the high school through doors 5 or 11. Visitors will be directed to the event venues.

Skol! and congratulations to North Branch Area High School junior James Halverson! He made the USA National Cycling team. He will be heading to Europe November 14 to race in France and Ireland for Team USA on the Elite Jr. Men 17-18 team. He will be racing in two World Cup Elite Jr races, one in France, and the other in Ireland.
This is the 6th season for James on Minnesota Junior Cycling. Coaches Dag Selander and Bjorn Selander have made a huge impact on him, they have an ability to push him, challenge him, and encourage him along the way.

Speakers Corner, a new effort implemented this year by the Norse Area Learning Center, brings various voices into the school to share post-secondary and career options with students. Pine Technical & Community College (PTCC) and Anoka Ramsey Community College (ARCC) have already visited. On Wednesday, Oct. 25, Norse welcomed Ecumen's Jordan Thompson, Sales and Marketing Manager and Crystal Kester, People Manager (Human Resources Manager) to share a variety of employment opportunities available to students, from resident care to office positions and culinary options. They spoke about wages, benefits, PTO, and the wonderful culture at Ecumen. It was a wonderful visit and exposed students to yet more potential opportunities.
