NBAHS Senior Amelia Bjerketvedt elected to state DECA president
North Branch Area High School (NBAHS) Senior Amelia Bjerketvedt has been elected to serve as the 2023-2024 Minnesota State DECA President. She is the first student from NBAHS to be elected to serve as the State President. As President of Minnesota DECA, Bjerketvedt represents over 3,000 members from across the state.
DECA is an international organization focused on preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for success in the future by building skills and creating opportunities in high school. With a 75 year history DECA has impacted the lives of millions of students, teachers, administrators, and professionals.
Bjerketvedt has participated in the NBAHS DECA program for the past two years. In that time she earned her way to state and national competitions during both her sophomore and junior years. As a sophomore Bjerketvedt competed in two events at the State Career Development Conference, and competed at the International Career Development Conference in the School Based Enterprise-Retail division. During her junior year she placed sixth at the State Conference in both the Marketing Communications Series and Start-Up Business Plan.
Bjerketvedt advanced to International Competition in the Marketing Communications Series where she was internationally recognized as a finalist, placing top 20 in her section with a top role play score.
Bjerketvedt is an involved member of NBAHS’s DECA Chapter as well. For the past two years she has served as the Vice President of Digital Engagement, and this year she will move into the position of Vice President of Community Service.
Outside of DECA Bjerketvedt is involved in many other clubs and activities at NBAHS. Most notably she is President of Student Council and Secretary for the National Honor Society. Bjerketvedt has also been on the NBAHS track and field team for the past three years.
Leading her team of Vice Presidents Bjerketvedt will spend the year working alongside state and national leadership for the betterment of Minnesota DECA. “We wish her well during her year in office and we cannot wait to see all that she accomplishes for our state,” said Stan Rosen, NBAHS DECA Advisor.
